MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has nominated Gregory Coleman as Inspector-General of the Liberia National Police (LNP).

According to President Johnson-Sirleaf, Col. Coleman’s nomination comes following due consultation with the National Security Council.

He was amongst several Police officers commissioned in 2014 as Police Commissioner.

The Liberian Chief Executive also nominated Col. Abrahan Kromah as Deputy Inspector-General for Oporations at the Liberia National Police.

If confirmed by the Liberian Senate, Col. Coleman, 36, will replace Col. Chris Massaquoi as Inspector General and Col. Kromah will replace Col. Prince Mulbah, who is serving as Acting Deputy Inspector-General for Operations at the LNP.

The President said the newly nominated  Police Inspector General will continue the implementation process of the new Police Act.

She said the nomination of Col. Coleman has long been in the pipe line, something she also noted relates to the implementation of the provision of the new Police Act.

The nominee is a graduate of the 2016 one year Mid-Career Master in Public Administration at Harvard University Kennedy School.

The Liberian Leader termed Col. Coleman as a diligent Police officer who serves with commitment and dedication to national duty.

According to the Liberian Leader, the reforms at the LNP were critical as the Country continues to strengthen its capacity to shoulder national security responsibilities in the absence of UNMIL.

The President urged the newly nominated Inspector-General and Deputy Inspector-General for Operations to justify the confidence she has reposed in them.

In remarks, Cols. Coleman and Kromah expressed delight for their preferement and assured the the Liberian Leader of their preparedness to execute their respective functions with dedication and commitment to the tasks assigned them.

At the same time, President Johnson-Sirleaf is commending outgoing Police Inspector-General, Chris Massaquoi, adding: ""He still enjoys my confidence."

In brief remarks, Col. Massaquoi thanked the Liberian Chief Executive for the opportunity afforded him to serve his country, saying: "I will always remain loyal to the President."
