MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Governance Commission (GC) Chairman, Amos Sawyer, is calling on Liberians to support the passage of the Land Rights Bill before the National Legislature.

Dr. Sawyer said the Bill is not ambiguous and does not pose any threat to the people as is being speculated in some quarters in the country.

Dr. Sawyer spoke Tuesday, September 28, 2016 in Monrovia at the start of a two – day national multi–stakeholders dialogue on large–scale land acquisitions and development in Liberia.

He also termed as false, speculations that the Bill will dispose people of their land, especially farm lands, scare away investors and undermine the constitution, when passed into law.

Also speaking at the dialogue, the Executive Director of Foundation for Community Initiative (FCI), Julie Weah, said the discussion is intended to address the challenges on large–scale land acquisition in Liberia.

It is organized by Rights and Resources Coalition in Liberia, in collaboration with Rights and Rice Foundation, with support from Rights and Resources Initiative.
