MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Roberts International Airport (RIA) in Margibi County is expected to get a modern terminal.

News about the construction of a modern terminal at the RIA comes amid the signing of a US$50m Concession Loan Agreement between the Liberian Government and the Chinese Exim Bank.

The signing ceremony was held Monday, October 3, 2016 in the Cabinet Room at the Foreign Ministry on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

Our reporter says, prior to the signing of the Agreement, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf approved the Act ratifying the loan agreement, recently passed by the National Legislature.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Johnson-Sirleaf praised the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the level of development support to Liberia and strong partnership existing between the two countries over the past ten years.

She reminded the Chinese Government that the Liberian Government was looking forward to the completion of other major projects, including the Ministerial Complex that China is implementing in Liberia.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Zhang Yue, described the level of progress made under the project as unprecedented.

Ambassador Yue said given the usual diplomatic bureaucracies involved in getting such projects done, it was quite a miracle to have expedited the arrangements within few months.

He disclosed that the move further solidifies the cordial relations between the two countries, stressing: “China would further prove its efficiency and quality in the implementation of the project.”

The modern terminal, when completed, would accommodate, at least, seven hundred persons at a time and facilitate the In and Out-Flows of over three hundred, fifty thousand travelers.
