Pres. Sirleaf lauds 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Winner

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has congratulated her Colombian counterpart, Juan Manuel Santos for his selection as 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Winner.

In a message to President Santos,   President Johnson-Sirleaf said to have championed the most promising peace deal to transition Colombia to sustainable peace and stability is commendable.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian Leader conveyed her sentiments through the message to the Colombian Leader.

She said President Manuel Santos is being remembered by the Nobel Peace Prize Award Committee for his resolute efforts in bringing the more than 50-year long Colombian civil war to an end.

President Johnson-Sirleaf hoped that despite the rejection of the recent peace deal, the bilateral ceasefire recently signed will translate into lasting peace for the Government and people of Colombia.

The Liberian President also said she was confident that Liberia will continue working closely along with the Government and people of Colombia for the realization of such Nobel objectives.

President Johnson-Sirleaf then lauded the Nobel Peace Prize Award Committee for its decision to select President Manuel Santos for the Award.

She prayed that God will continue to endow the Colombian President with abundant wisdom, good health, and happiness as he leads his people to a peaceful and prosperous future.
