MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Francis Kateh, says collaboration among Mano River Union (MRU) countries in the fight against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is paramount to the region’s health needs.

Dr. Kateh said Neglected Tropical Diseases are underfunded and less attention is paid to them, thereby causing many people to suffer and die.

Dr. Kateh made the statement Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the start of a 3-dayconference to finding solutions to NTDs.

He said there is a rising need for collective efforts in the fight against NTDs.

The Chief Medical Officer hoped that at the end of the conference, rich ideas will be generated and participating countries and partners can fully implement them.

The opening of the conference also saw the inauguration of Liberian educator, Dr. Evelyn Kandakai as NTD Ambassador in the Mano River Union Basin.

The conference brought together participants from the four Mano River Union Countries, including Liberia, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoir and Sierra Leone.
