MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Nations Secretary General’s Deputy Special Representative for the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) is praising the Liberian people for supporting the Mission during the past thirteen years.

Waldemar Vrey said: “UNML wouldn't have achieved a success story, if Liberians had not given the needed support and collaboration to the Mission.”

Mr. Vrey made the statement Monday, October 24, 2016, on behalf of the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative, Farid Zarif, at a peace festival in Monrovia.

The Peace festival was held by the Crusaders for Peace at Liberia’s oldest sports stadium, the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS).

Mr. Very, a South African, paid tribute to Liberia for being one of the founding members of the UN and original signatory to the Paris Agreement for Climate Change.

“As the United Nations celebrates its 71st Anniversary, the organization remains committed to protecting children from the consequences of environmental degradation and climate change,” he also said.
