MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberians from all walks of life are commemorating National Thanksgiving at thgeir various places of worship, following a Proclamation issued recently by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

A Foreign Ministry release quotes the Proclamation as declaring Thursday, November 3, 2016 as “National Thanksgiving Day, to be observed as a National Holiday throughout Liberia.

National Thanksgiving is in consonance with the 1883 Act of the National Legislature, declaring the first Thursday of November every year as National Thanksgiving Day.

The Proclamation also quotes President Johnson-Sirleaf as having called on all Liberians and foreign residents to gather in their various places of worship to give thanks and praises to God for His blessings upon the nation and people.

It further said: “It is befitting that a day be set aside for the Nation and its people to give thanks and adoration to the Lord for His dispensation of grace, mercy and providence for the preservation of lives.”
