NEC shows signs of preparedness for Election-2017

MONROVIA-The National Elections Commission (NEC) is showing signs of its preparedness towards conducting a successful 2017 presidential and general elections in Liberia.

The NEC Commissioner and Steering Committee Chairman of Elections-201, Samuel Joe said: “That NEC is receiving enormous backing from IFES and UNDP, and at the same time materials distribution for voters’ registration are underway across the country.”

Commissioner Joe made the revelation recently in Monrovia when the NEC received 330 cameras from UNDP to enhance  the voters’ registration process, as part of its assistant.

The NEC, with help from IFES and UNDP and other donors, is also said to have also lighted all election magisterial areas with solar panel lights ahead of the voters’ registration exercise in the country.  The voters’ registration is scheduled to run between February 1, and June 7, 2017 respectively.

According to the Commissioner, “NEC has employed over 600 voters and civic educators across Liberia and also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with about 300 civic society organizations to assist the NEC with the civic and voters education.”

He described the good will of development partners; towards the NEC as well as the ongoing voters’ education process as immensely successful and assured that majority of the nation’s population has been reached through the outreach and awareness process.
