ECOWAS Chairperson chairs West African meeting in Abuja

The Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, is chairing an ongoing meeting of West African leaders in the Nigerian Capital, Abuja.

A follow-up meeting-up of which the ECOWAS Chairperson, Madam Sirleaf is  resolved to using dialogue as a means to persuade President Yayah Jammeh to hand over power.

The Minister Counselor for Press at the Liberian Embassy in Nigeria, Nat Bayjay, said President Sirleaf arrived in Nigeria Monday morning where the host, President Muhammadu Buhari, is the lead ECOWAS negotiator of the Gambia political stalemate.

The came about with ten days to the planned inauguration of President-elect Adama Barrow, incumbent President Yayah Jammeh is yet to change his mind on refusing to peacefully hand down power.

Senegalese President Macky Sal, former Ghanaian President   John Mahama and current President Nana Akufo-Addo, along with Sierra Leonean Vice President are also forming part of the discussions.
