MONROVIA-The Government of Liberia has granted a six-month Duty Free privilege to Liberian-owned businesses engaged in road infrastructure in the country.

The move is intended to reduce importation costs associated with road equipment.

The pronouncement was contained in the ‘State of Nation Address’ delivered by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf on Monday, January 24,2017 at the Joint Chambers of the National Legislature, in Monrovia.

President Sirleaf frowned on the prolonged delays in the clearing of containers at the Free Port of Monrovia, and has mandated the Liberia Revenue Authority to work out modalities to ensure the timely clearing of containers at the Free Port of Monrovia.

In another development, President Sirleaf has announced plans by Government for the construction of a Sports Academy.

The President said such national endeavor is aimed at building the capacity of young people in the sporting industry. President Sirleaf said budgetary appropriation will be made to support Government’s sport agenda.
