MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian leader, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has extolled the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) for its exceptional performance and dedicated services to the people of Liberia over the years.

President Sirleaf, the Commander-In-Chief of the AFL praised the AFL for swiftly executing Operation Restore Hope in the South-eastern border part of the country with neighboring La Cote d’Ivoire.

She made the statement during the celebration of the Armed Forces Day, when she delivered her speech Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the 60th anniversary celebration of the AFL at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia.

Madam Sirleaf said the splendid and successful implementation of “Operation Restore Hope” by the Liberian military is a clear sign of the outstanding training and discipline the AFL has received since she ascended to the presidency in 2006.

The Liberian Leader also commended former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo for his exceptional role in building the new army, particularly for sending some of his country’s trained and professional soldiers to help with the training of the AFL.

She also lauded the U.S. Government for the high level of training and working with the AFL in various capacities; and remembering China and other development partners for helping to equip the new army.

The Liberian military is already actively participating in regional peace keeping by taking up duty in Republic of Mali and at the headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as part of the region’s standby force, and at the same time having the Mano River Union (MRU) secretariat under its security protocol.
