Prez. Issues Executive Order on storage waiver

MONROVIA-The President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has issued Executive Order No.82 waiving storage charges and custom duty on none-commercial containers.

Containers covered under the Executive Order are those with commercial goods imported by Liberians and have stayed over sixty days at the Free Port of Monrovia, which ends on April 30 this year.

The President also waived custom duty on road construction equipment with HS Codes (8429 and 8430) for Liberian owned businesses for a period of six months, ending August 24, 2017.

According to an Executive Mansion release Wednesday, March 1, 2017 the President’s decision is in the interest of national reconstruction and development, and the Executive Order took effect since February 25 this year.

It stresses had determined an urgent need to provide relief on custom duties and storage fees and further mandates the LRA and the National Port Authority to establish procedures for the effectuation of said relief.

Road construction equipment with waived custom duties include: self-propelled bulldozers, angle dozers, graders, levelers, strapers, mechanical shovels, excavators, shovel loaders, tamping machines and road rollers.

Others include moving, grading, levelling, scraping, excavating, tamping, compacting, extracting or boring machinery for earth, minerals or ores, pile -drivers and pile-extractors.
