President wants Firestone bill ratified

MONROVIA-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is requesting the Legislature to ratify the restated concession Agreement between the government of Liberia and Firestone Liberia.

In a communication to the House of Representatives on March 30,2017, the President said the bill seeks to turn Firestone to a full rubber production capacity.

The President said when passed into law, Firestone Liberia will commence the process of diversification into other agricultural products.
The Liberian leader said: “The bill is in supportive of government’s goal to rehabilitate and develop the rubber industry of Liberia and provide additional jobs for Liberians.”

The bill in question seeks to amend certain provisions of the 2008 Firestone Concession agreement.
The government of Liberia and Firestone Liberia entered into an amended and restated concession agreement in 2008.
