SOUTH EASTERN LIBERIA-The President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, has broken grounds for the construction of a 130-kilometer road linking River Gee to Sinoe County. The 18-month –project, valued at over one million United States Dollars, is being funded by Euro-Logging Company, through a tax credit arrangement. Under this arrangement, initiated by the Forestry Development Authority, Euro-Logging Company will redirect its outstanding taxes towards the funding of the road project. President Sirleaf said the initiative is a perfect way by which the Liberian Government can continue meeting the development needs of the people, amid difficult economic situations. The President said: “The in availability of requisite funding remains a major constraint to Liberia’s development and that the Government is committed to addressing such constraint.” The ground-breaking ceremony was graced by Deputy Public Works Minister, Claude Langley, and FDA Managing Director, Darlington Tuagben. Prominent citizens, including lawmakers and superintendents of both River Gee and Sinoe Counties, were also at the occasion performed over the week-end.
