Vice President Joseph Boakai and US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs have highlighted the need for further strengthening of the longstanding traditional ties between the two countries.

VP Boakai and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Peter Barlerin, stressed the need for peace, rule of law and tolerance as Liberia prepares for 2017 Elections.

Speaking earlier, the Liberian Vice President said he personally does not believe any country should rely heavily on outside assistance for its social and economic development.

He however called for due diligence to be employed so as not to make the process too traumatic to poor nations.

He told Assistant Secretary Barlerin that most developing countries are striving to end dependency syndrome occasioned by donor driven assistance.

He made the declarations when the Assistant Secretary for African Affairs recently paid a courtesy call on him.
