Government offers Liberian workers US$10m loan to build homes

(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Liberian government has made available US$10m as loan for civil servants.

The amount according to the Interim President of the National Civil Servants Association of Liberia, Elloitt Odoorh, will be used to improve the wellbeing of civil servants.

He said: “The amount will be loaned mainly to civil servants for the construction of residences, while the repayment of this money will be done through salary deduction”.

According to Mr. Odoorh,”President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has consented to increase civil servants salaries beginning February-2013 following months of negotiations”.

He also disclosed that the as part of the  negotiations, they have agreed that the salary increment considers the month of July 2012.

The Interim President of Civil Servants, who made the disclosure Friday January 25 2013 in Monrovia, did not disclose the amount already agreed upon to be added to the salaries of civil servants, but described the increment as attractive.
