Code of Conduct sections withdrawal - Dr. Sawyer clarifies

MONROVI-LIBERIA-The Governance Commission Chairman, Dr. Amos Sawyer, has clarified that his Commission has not in any way made recommendation to the National Elections Commission (NEC) for possible withdrawal of any section of the draft Code of Conduct.

Chairman Sawyer, told ELBC Friday, May 5, 2017 in an interview saying: “Sections 5.1 and 5.2 of the Code of Conduct document did not come from the Governance Commission, prior to its passage into law as being speculated”.

DR. Sawyer further maintained that the decision by the Supreme Court on the Code of Conduct must be respected.

Following  weeks  of  public debate  on  the code  of  conduct amongst  Liberians, the  Governance  Commission Chairman spoken  on  the  matter  for  the first  time.

Chairman Sawyer said: “We as institution welcome the ongoing   debates among citizens regarding the Code of Conduct, however for   civil society organizations and some political parties failed to show interest during the validation process of the draft document of the Code of Conduct held then at the NEC”.

Dr. Sawyer reassured the public that the GC role is to make policy recommendations to enhance peace and Good Governance to promote democracy in Liberia.
