President Sirleaf praises UNMIL for keeping the peace in Liberia.

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is commending the United Nations Peacekeepers for their role in helping Liberia restore peace, stability and return on the path of reconstruction and development.

President Sirleaf said: The peace our country has enjoyed in eleven years is due to the sacrifices of the many Africans and foreign peacekeepers who braved the storm during the country’s civil crisis.

The Liberian Leader paid tribute to the peacekeepers and urged Liberians to give them honor because they deserve it.

The President also expressed delight over Liberia’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission, with a platoon of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) serving in Mali.

She was speaking Monday at program marking the commemoration of the UN International Peacekeepers Day in Monrovia, under theme: Investing in Peace around the World”held at UNMIL Headquarters in Monrovia.

Speaking earlier, the special representative of the United Nations Secretary General to Liberia, arid Zarid, extoled the progress Liberia and the UN have both made over the years.

The UN Envoy said, despite the tremendous challenges, the two institutions have worked together, stressing that the UN will stand by Liberia protecting the gains made.

The Liberian Leader and the UNMIL Boss laid wreaths in honor of the over three thousand troops that have lost their lives around the world.
