MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has joined its counterparts around the world to condemn the Democratic Republic of Korea ballistic missile launching recently.

The launching, carried out on July 4, 2017 with a possible inter-continental range, was the country’s eleventh launch this year in total disregard to international law and outrage.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian Government reiterates its disapproval of such reckless display by the DRK.

The release also quotes the Government as saying it views the DRK’s action as a flagrant violation of relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions.

It said that the ballistic missile launching constitutes a perilous escalation of the situation in the Korean Peninsula.

The Liberian Government said the launching of such weapon of mass destruction threatens world peace in clear disregard of its commitments under the 2005 joint Statement of the Six Party Talks.

The Government, therefore, is urging the DRK to cease its provocations and chart a course of de-nuclearization by honoring its international commitments under the UN resolution of 2094.

The Government also wants DRK to honor all existing nuclear programs in a completely verifiable and irreversible manner, and desist from conducting any further nuclear tests.
