President Sirleaf guarantees peaceful elections

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is assuring Liberians, the sub- region and the rest of Africa that her government is committed to holding credible elections in the Country.

President Sirleaf said transparent election is essential for maintaining national peace and fostering socio-economic development in ECOWAS.
She assured that Liberia will set the hallmark to ensuring that the Sub-region remains stable through democratic process.

The President gave the assurance during the week in Monrovia at the start of a two-day seminar organized through the partnership of ECOWAS, UNOWAS and the Mano River Union (MRU) for peaceful elections in Liberia.

ns should be prepared to accept the results and refrain from creating confusion during and after the process.The President was represented by the Minister of State without portfolio, Dr.Clarence Momba.

Remarking at the opening of the seminar, ECOWAS Commission’s Vice President, Edward Singhatey, said over the last two decades Liberia had suffered 14 years of civil conflict that claimed more than two-hundred -thousand lives and destroyed the nation’s economy and infrastructure.

Mr.Singhatey said the carnage was the result of the lack of transparent democratic process in the Country, emphasizing that in is crucial for Liberia to always hold peaceful and transparent elections.

The ECOWAS Commission Vice President then cautioned ECOWAS nationals to uphold the democratic tenet to enhance peace in the Country.
