CONAKRY, GUINEA-A major Three-day sub-regional conference on the theme: “Post-Ebola Health Challenges in West Africa” has opened today, Thursday, in Conakry, Guinea.

The conference is being held by the Steering Committee of the West African Consortium on Ebola Vaccines, Therapeutics, Diagnostics and Survivor Care.

A release says the conference seeks to create a forum for various stakeholders to discuss and develop common positions on post-EVD related medical, ethical, psycho-social, and community issues.

The stakeholders include scientists, researchers, ethicists, community members, policy makers, and research-related entities among others.

The forum is expected to include cross-cutting presentations from international organizations, symposia and panel discussions from the sub-region among others.

The sub-regional collaboration was established in 2015 by the 3 ebola worst affected countries -Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone- to collaborate on vaccine and therapeutic clinical trials through a multi-country regional strategy.

The Consortiums Chairperson and Liberia’s representative, Moses Massaquoi, said they hope their respective governments will provide the necessary support including the political to the body.

He said: The support is crucial for the implementation of the consortium’s duty in fostering clinical research for emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.”
