MONROVIA, LIBERIA- Representative (Rep.) George Mulbah has introduced a Bill at the House of Representative, seeking to replace the Act creating the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS).

The document is entitled an Act to Repeal the Public Authorities Law of Chapter 87, Tittle 30 of the Liberia Code of Laws Revised of the PRC Decree No.  Number 30 that established the LBS.

Rep. Mulbah said: “If the bill is passed into law, it will make LBS to become an Independent and Public Broadcaster and its Board of Directors be drawn from the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) including the Liberia Chambers of Commerce (LCC) among others”.

The Bong County Rep. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 submitted to the plenary of the Legislature in Monrovia, following the reading of the communication by the Deputy Chief Clerk at the Lower House, Cypher Geeplay.

The new Bill if enacted into law would now make the National Broadcaster be called the ‘Liberia National Broadcasting Corporation (LNBC) and shall be financed by the government of Liberia through the National Budget.

Rep. Mulbah said: “The introduction of this bill clearly does not mean that the current management of the Liberia Broadcasting System is not providing a level playing field for the public”.

A motion was filed by Rep. Gabriel Smith, of Grand Bassa County to send the document to the committees on Communication, Judiciary, Ways and Means and Finance to await a report within two weeks.
