UN Women org signs pact with civil society groups

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Nations Women Organization has signed two-hundred-sixty-thousand United States Dollars project agreements with three civil society organizations seeking to support political participation, civic voter education and media monitoring during the elections period.

The agreements were signed at the UNWomen Headquarters in Monrovia on September 7, 2017.

The Women NGO Secretariat of LiberiamLiberia Women Political Forum, the New Narrative Media Group and the UNWomen Organization signed the pact.

UN Women Liberia Representative, Marie Nizigama, said the initiative will contribute to heighten participation of women in the 2017 elections generally and as candidates.

Madam Nizigama said: “The support will further enhance accountability, active monitoring and mitigating electoral violence against women, most importantly as voters.”

Representatives of the three organizations then thanked the UNWomen Organization and the Government of Canada for the support.

Mrs. Ruth Caesar of the Liberia Women Political Forum, Marpue Speare of WONGOSOL and Teecee Boley of New Narratives signed on behalf of their respective institutions.
