MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Reports indicate that the Executive Mansion is withdrawing the proposed ‘Presidential Transition Act of 2017’ from the Legislature.

According to reports, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf wrote a communication to the House of Representative Monday, September 18, 2017, requesting the withdrawal of the proposed law.

Our Legislative Correspondent said: “The President’s communication surfaced as an item for discussion on the House Plenary’s agenda Tuesday”.  According to him, he observed the issues were not discussed as plenary did not convene due to lack of quorum.

The proposed Presidential Transition Act of the 2017 was submitted by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to the Legislature on August 17, 2017.

The Act seeks to enhance the smooth transfer of political power from one democratically elected President to another through the setting up of the necessary framework.

The Bill, since it submission to the Lower House, has sparked public criticisms with many calling on the Legislature to avoid the passing it into law. The University of Liberia students’ leaders recently called for the trashing of the bill.
