(lbsonline/Liberia)-Liberia says it will continue supporting ECOWAS and other international partners to ensure regional peace and security.

According to President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Liberia will stand by ECOWAS to ensure peace in Mali and Guinea Bissau.

President Johnson-Sirleaf said: “If approved by the National Legislature, the country will send a platoon of soldiers to Mali.”
"This is intended to ensure the return of peace and democracy to that West African country”, she said.

“As a beneficiary of ECOWAS’ peace initiative, it was time for Liberia to give back to the regional body.”

The President made the statements in Monrovia Monday 28th January, 2013 when she delivered her State-of-the-Nation Address at the joint Assembly of the National Legislature.

At the same time, the Liberian Chief Executive says the country is the second in West Africa to have an Open Budget Initiative (OBI).

“The OBI is an instrument of transparency and accountability that shows how financial resources are utilized for the development of the country,” President Johnson-Sirleaf also said.
