Swedish Embassy, Mercy Corps sign 5.6 Million Agreement

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organization, and the Swedish Embassy have signed a 5.6 million US Dollar agreement aimed at empowering young Liberians.

The agreement was signed as part of Mercy Corps’ Promoting Sustainable Partnership for Economic Transformation (PROSPECT) program.

The program, to be implemented in Bong, Nimba and Montserrado counties, targets at least 19-thousand young people between ages 15 to 35.

It will provide employment and entrepreneurship opportunities through trainings and apprenticeships.

The Head of Development Corporation and Charge d’ Affairs at the Swedish Embassy, Elizabeth Harleman, said supporting youth is vital for the development of Liberia.

Madam Harleman said:” The gesture is my Country’s way of helping Liberians become a source of stability and productivity for their communities.”

For his part, Mercy Corps Liberia Country Director, Douglas Cooper, expressed gratitude to the people of Sweden for the program which will run till August 2020.

The Agreement was signed on September 26, 2017.
