MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Authorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs says more than 7,000 persons have been affected by the recent flooding in parts of Margibi County.

The Government of Liberia has dispatched relief assistance to the flood victims.

The flooding began since September 13, 2017 this year due to heavy down pour of rain in parts of Margibi County that has affected several public and private properties, and rendering some residents homeless.

Deputy Internal Affairs Minister, Gbemmie Horrace, said: “The Government of Liberia, with assistance from local and international partners, has provided bags of rice and other assorted items to  residents affected by the flood.”

Speaking to ELBC Wednesday, September 27, 2017, Minister Horace said:” In an effort to effectively respond to the disaster, a Command Center has been established in the County for prompt intervention.”

The Command Center, according to the Minister, is being operated by the government of Liberia, the World Health Organization, the Liberian Red Cross Society, UNICEF, among others, who are responding to the needs of the victims.

The Deputy Internal Affairs Minister noted that the Government of Liberia is seriously concern about the situation confronting its citizens in that part of the country, and is doing all it can to address the situation.
