MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Coast Guard has confiscated a fishing trawler for illegal and unreported fishing.

A Defense Ministry Release says the DZINTAS was seized less than twelve nautical miles from Liberia’s coastline with over 300,000 kilograms of fish on board.

According to the release, the Coast Guards found the vessel in multiple violations, including shutting down its Automatic Identification System, the lack of landing declaration and abuse of Liberia’s Catch on Entry regulations.

At the same time, the Ministry of Defense has refuted media reports that its Minister, Brownie Samukai, authorized the participation of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) personnel in a district political rally of the Unity Party.

The Defense Ministry release says as attributed to the institute for Research and Democratic Development and published by the New Dawn, In Profile and Inquirer newspapers, the report is untrue.

It said the AFL remains a professional military institution with no intention to participate in any political rally before, during and after the pending elections.
