Asso.of Liberia Journalists in the Americas calls for violence free elections

The Association of Liberian Journalists in the Americas (ALJA) is calling on candidates, leaders, and members of political parties to avoid acts of violence and intimidation during Tuesday’s elections.

ALJA is also urging the National Elections Commission (NEC) and the international community, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),African Union, European Union, and the United Nations to ensure that the elections is free,fair,transparent,and participatory.

The Association in a release said it would personally hold responsible anyone, candidate or political leader, whose statements or actions instigate violence, disrupt the elections or negatively impact the smooth democratic process.

ALJA said it would not hesitate to call on the United States Government, the European Union, ECOWAS and the AU to also hold accountable and arrest any political leader who will stir up elections related conflict in the Country.

ALJA, in the release said that the October 10 elections mark a critical period in Liberia’s quest for sustained democracy, stability and peaceful co-existence.

Meanwhile, the Association is calling on registered voters to exercise their political franchise by fully participating in Tuesday’s elections.
