President Sirleaf describes elections as historic, urges Liberians to reflect soberly

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has described the October 10 presidential and Representative elections as an historic moment in consolidation of Liberia’s young democracy.

The Liberian Leader urged all Liberians to soberly reflect on the gains made so far for a nation coming from conflict to a vibrant democracy in the West African sub-region.

She congratulated Liberians for sustaining the peace up to date and called on them to go peacefully to the pools on Tuesday and remember that the country’s future is theirs irrespective of tribal, religious and party affiliation.

President Sirleaf also called on Liberians to accept the outcome of the results from the National Elections Commission (NEC).

She said following the NEC are International Elections observers, including ECOWAS, EU, ECC, among others.

President Sirleaf said the NEC has put in a system proven to be credible in the conduct of these elections.

She spoke Monday, October 9, 2017 at her Foreign Ministry office in Monrovia.
