MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former Ghanaian President and Head of ECOWAS Elections Observation Mission to Liberia, John Mahama, says despite some administrative and logistical challenges, the mission is satisfied with the conduct of the elections.

Mr.  Mahatma said:” The National Elections Commission should, however, approach the concluding phases of the electoral process with fairness, openness, and transparency, until the proclamation of the results.”

He said with the concern of isolated cases of violence, the security forces maintained their presence at all polling stations in the country.

The ECOWAS head of mission is urging candidates to put Liberia first by maintaining the peace, and appealed to them to gracefully accept the will of the people.

The Former Ghanaian President stressed that in the event of genuine grievances, they should resort exclusively to legal means to seek redress.

At the same time African Union head of mission, Erastus Mwencha, said despite logistical and technical challenges, the pre-election and Election Day processes were conducted in an orderly, transparent and credible manner.

Mr. Mwencha said all stakeholders should continue to strive for peace in the remaining phases to ensure a smooth democratic transition.

The AU observer head said:” In the wake of the national identification, the government should adopt and legislate a national identification system.”
