Gov. of Liberia declares October 24 working holiday

MONROVIA,LIBERIA-The Liberian Government has, by proclamation, declared today, Tuesday, October 24,2017 as’ United Nations Day’ and is to be observed throughout the Country as  a working holiday.

The proclamation calls on all Government ministries and agencies, international organizations, United Nations Agencies, schools and other institutions to cooperate with the Ministry of Education in organizing appropriate programs befitting the occasion.

A Foreign Ministry release says Liberia is joining other member states to celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of United Nations.

The occasion will be celebrated under the theme: “Potential in Diversities, “in recognition of the invaluable contributions of the United Nations.

On October 13, 1957, the UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution declaring October 24 each year as the anniversary of the Charter of the

United Nations to be observed as United Nations Day.

Liberia, as a founding member and signatory to the Charter of the United Nations, meaningfully benefitted therefrom and continues to support all programs of the world body as an expression of its constant appreciation, particularly with emphasis on the operations of the United Nations Mission in Liberia.

The proclamation also praised the United Nations Organization and its Member States for their contributions in rebuilding Liberia following its civil crisis.
