LLC President-General Summerville promises a stronger union

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Newly inducted President-General of the Liberia Labor Congress (LLC), Alfred Summerville, has vowed to build a strong labor union under his administration by doing away with the culture of dependency syndrome.

The new LLC leader said: “It’s high time for sprinters union operating in discard factions merge under their common objective to improve good working wedges, benefits and salary of workers in the country”.

Mr. Summerville said, “It will now become compulsory for the various union of the LLC to pay due to enable the Liberia Labor center reinforce its administrative duties to be more proactive”.

The LLC President-General spoke Sunday, November 5, 2017, when he addressed a cross section of unionists from industrial, media, traders, agriculturists, health and teachers, and others, at the induction ceremony of officers-elect of the LLC in Garnerville, Montserrado County.

In his key note address, the Liberia Law Society Legal Consultant, Cllr. Samuel Kofi Woods, called on Liberian unionists to well organize themselves to help improve the lot of workers and families.

Cllr. Woods said:  “Organization among unionists in the country will ensure social cohesion, group support, mutual defense, and protection for workers at your various working places”.

He said through proper organization unionists will get the needed economic and social benefits and salary, healthcare, including conducive working environment.

Cllr. Woods reminded the unionists: “Your failure to organize properly will be a dis-service to your families, so don’t engage in collective bargaining, even strike actions, or to engage in other forms of mutual aid”.
