Carter Center urges political parties to reaffirm commitments

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Carter Center is urging all political parties to reaffirm their commitments to a peaceful process in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Monday ruling. The Carter Center said in spite of the high court’s ruling, which delays the presidential run-off elections significantly, political parties must remain committed to peace. The Carter Center said the wants the various political parties to ensure that their supporters maintain calm and exercise patience as they await resolution of electoral disputes. In a release issued Tuesday, November 6, 2017, the Center called on Liberians to remain dedicated to ensuring a peaceful democratic transition from one government to another. The Carter Center’s election observation mission says it has been observing the proceedings before the National Election Commission and the Supreme Court. The Center notes that in the hearings to date, all parties to the complaints have been given sufficient time to prepare their cases and be heard before the adjudicating bodies.
