EU expresses concern over Liberia’s electoral process

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The European Union (EU) and member states say they are observing, with keen interest and concern, delay in the on-going electoral process in Liberia.
The EU said: “We believe the electoral process can be completed in accordance with constitutional timeline regarding the assumption of political power by the next administration”.
The EU member states further said: “Peace and security, democracy, good governance and human rights are shared values at the heart of the EU-Africa partnership”.
EU in a joint statement issued Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in Monrovia, stressed the importance of a smooth democratic transition for Liberia’s stability and economic growth.
The statement also recalled that EU member states have worked closely along with Liberia in support of both post-conflict reconstruction and long-term development.
According to the EU, it is looking forward to contributing to the already existing cooperation with Liberia’s would-be President and government.
The EU is therefore, commending Liberians for demonstrating commitment to peace.
