Presidential Transition Team holds meeting

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and President-elect George Weah Sunday co-chaired the first joint Presidential Transition Team meeting in the Cecil Dennis Auditorium at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia.

The Team, the first of its kind in over 70years, is organizing the smooth transfer of power on January 22, 2018, the third working Monday in the month.

According to an Information Ministry release issued Monday, January 1, 2018, President Sirleaf thanked the President and Vice President-elect, George Weah and Juwel Howard-Taylor for responding to her invitation, adding that the process calls for serious coordination.

The release said the President-elect, George Weah, also thanked the President for setting up the mechanism that would allow a smooth transitional process.

President-elect Weah said he and his team will fully cooperate to ensure the successful transfer of power.

According to the release, the meeting focused on Executive Order 91 which created the transition team, establishing of transition secretariat and formulation of a work plan.

The President’s Team provided short briefing on the January 22, 2018 inauguration, the economy, national security issues and other important issues relating to the State.

The Presidential Team is expected to meet at least three times before the January 22 inauguration, while other subsidiary working group will meet regularly depending on their tasks.

The joint Presidential Transition Team comprises two groups, one headed by President Sirleaf, and the other by President-elect George Weah, and each comprises 15 persons.

The President led team comprises Sylvester Grisby, Marjon Kamara, Boima Kamara, Frederick Cherue and Brownie Samukai, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Finance and Development Planning, Justice and Defense.

Others are Information and Acting Internal Affairs Ministers Eugene Nagbe, Varney SirleafCentral Bank Executive Milton Weeks, GSA Director General Mary Broh, and EPS Director Same Gaye.

NASSCORP Director GeneralDewitt von Ballmoos,Yvette Chesson-Wureh of the Angie Brooks International Center,Jordan Solunteh,Director General of the Cabinet, Secretary of the Transitional Team and Dr.Abdoulaye,Office of the President.

The President-elect George Weah’s Team includes, Vice President –elect Juwel Howard-Taylor, DC’s Chairman Nathaniel McGill, Samuel Tweah, Professor Wilson Tarpeh, Dr.Toga McIntosh, and Gbehzongar Findley.

Others are Charles Gibson, Dee Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Adrian Smith-Forbes, DC’s Youth Chair Jefferson Koijee and CDC’s Vice Chairs Moses Kollie and John Youboty.

The Team also includes Professor Ansu Sonii, Representative Munah-Pelham Youngblood, Janga Kowo Secretary of the Team and Willamette Saydee-Tarr, Deputy Secretary, Transition Team.
