Mutual Liberia lunches low income housing project

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Manager for Mutual Fund for African Women (MUFFA-Liberia) ,Naomi Yormie, has disclosed plans to build three hundred low housing units across the Country.

Madam Yormie said:” The project is intended to benefit low income and vulnerable women in Liberia.”

She puts the cost of the houses at eight to ten-thousand United States Dollars with a repayment plan of ten years.

Madam Yormie spoke over the weekend at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the first unit under MUFFA Liberia low income housing project.

She recognized the respective roles of Afriland First Bank-Liberia Limited, Habitat for Humanity International Liberia, African Union, Liberia Bank for Development and investment, amongst others, for their support and technical assistance to the success of the project in Liberia.

Also speaking at the groundbreaking program, the Chief Party of Habitat for Humanity International Liberia chapter, Mathew Ndote pledged his entity’s commitment to supporting MUFFA Liberia low income project for vulnerable women in the Country.

Mr. Ndote said:” The focus of the entity is to see more Liberians own their personal homes at a low cost, and we will encourage the use of localize materials in constructing those houses.”

He said his institution is working in seventy countries providing safe, adequate and affordable shelters for low income earners.

The Coordinator of the National Housing Authority (NHA) Slum Up-grading Unit, ES-Samier Bropleh, said the NHA has now realized that Government Estates which were built for low income earners had not benefited them over the years.

Mr. Bropleh said because of this, NHA will change its strategies to ensure that Government housing project benefit the targeted beneficiaries instead of high earners.

He also pledged NHA commitment in working with MUFFA Liberia toward its low income housing project.
