Auditor General wants swift act on audit reports

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Auditor General, Yusador Gaye, wants members of the National Legislature speedy act on audit reports submitted to that body.

Madam Gaye said: “To achieve the Government’s Pro-Poor Agenda; lawmakers must begin attaching importance to audit reports from the General Auditing Commission (GAC).”

The GAC Boss also admonished legislators to auditors for joint reviews of audit reports, if there are problems with findings.

The Auditor General was speaking Wednesday at program marking the official turning over of the Chairmanship of the Joint Public Accounts, Expenditure and Committee in Monrovia.

Madam Gaye disclosed that the GAC has conducted Thirty-Six audits, while one-hundred-seventy-seven audits were done in 2017.

For his part, the Chairman on the Joint Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Senator Henry Yallah, said the political will from the Executive to expedite audit reports remains an issue.

Senator Yallah said the PAC, under the new administration, will be effective and proactive in ensuring the Pro-Poor Agenda of President Weah is realized.

Meanwhile, Representative Edward Karfiah has taken over from f Representative Thomas Fallah as Chairman on the PAC at the House of Representatives.
