MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The presidency of the Republic of Senegal has issued a communiqué announcing the arrival of the Liberian leader, George Manneh Weah on his visit to Senegal on Thursday, 15, February 2018 in Dakar, Senegal.

“The visit is to stimulate a new dynamism in relations between Senegal and Liberia, in order to bring the two countries up to the level of mutual friendship and an esteem that binds the two leaders”. A Senegalese online publication, ‘The Source’, said.

‘The Source’ quoting a press release by the Presidency of the Republic of Senegal, said “President Weah was welcomed by his counterpart Head of State, Macky Sall, at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Military Airport, before the two Heads of State visited the presidential palace where the two Western African leaders had a tête-à-tête discussions bordering on several areas of common interest”.

According to the release Presidents Macky Sall and George Weah discussion would capture different areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the areas of fisheries, investment promotion, Senegalese experience in the implementation of economic and social development programs.

Former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, also  reassured his support and commitment to the success of President George Weah led-administration.

Mr. Blair said:” My commitment was part of a pledge made when I initially called to congratulate you upon your election.”

Mr. Blair made the statement when he met with the Liberian Leader in Darkar, Senegal, during his state visit to that West African country.

The former British envoy told the Liberian leader that his organization, the African Governance Initiative (AGI), would like to continue its work in Liberia.

Mr. Blair pledged to contribute his expertise not only in giving advice, but to also help with policy formulation and solicitation of funds through different channels.

For his part, President Weah commended Mr. Blair for his leadership and work in Liberia and other developing countries.

The President applauded the British statesman for his commitment; stressing that such support will be greatly needed in implementing his pro-poor agenda.

President Weah also met members of the ECOWAS Parliament and thanked them for their work towards sustainable development and growth in Africa among others.

Liberia’s President Georges Manneh Weah, Thursday February 15, 2018, begun his working and friendship visit in Senegal as part of his nine days official visits also to other friendly nation including Morocco and France.

The visit to the three countries of the Liberian leader, George Weah marks the first of its kinds few days after his inauguration. The visits are expected to reflect the building of diplomatic ties to further strengthen between the countries.
