UN ends Peace-Keeping Mission at the close of March 2018

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The United Nations says the mandate of its mission to Liberia will officially end on March 31, 2018.

The UN also said the world body’s activities in Liberia will transition from peace-keeping to peace building and development.

The disclosure was made Monday, March 12, 2018 by the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative on Peace Consolidation, Yacoud El Hillo.

According to a release issued, Mr.El-Hillo spoke during a courtesy visit to House Speaker, Dr.Bhofal Chambers, at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.

The reports further quotes the UN Envoy as saying the UN has eighteen agencies presently operating in Liberia.

He sail all of these agencies will remain active in various peace building and development activities in the Country.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General’s Deputy Special Representative for Peace Consolidation will assume the responsibility as the UN Resident Coordinator in Liberia after March 31, 2018.

Mr.El-Hillo will also assume the responsibility as the UN Development Program Resident Representative in the Country after the end of this month.
