MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The draw for the 2018 WAFU/FOX U-20 Youth Football Tournament takes place March 26, 2018 at the Ministry of Youth and Sports   currently housed at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex in Monrovia.

The West African Football Union (WAFU) months ago selected Liberia to host the WAFU / FOX U-20 Youth Tournament that will run from April 24 to May 6, 2018.

In a communication to member associations, WAFU Secretary General, Jammeh E.K. Bojang, said the decision to hold the tournament in Liberia was based upon the advice of CAF because of the congested continental calendar.

A Liberia Football Association Statement issued Wednesday, March 21, 2018,  said the Secretary Generals of both WAFU Zones A and B, Jammeh E.K. Bojang and Akan Malan, will be in Liberia on the 24th of March this month ahead of the draw.

According to report, the WAFU/FOX U-20 tournament will feature WAFU member countries from Zone A.

Zone A member countries include Liberia, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Mali, Cape Verde and Mauritania.

There are uncertainties among Liberian football fans as to whether the competition will actually take place in the country as WAFU last senior edition failed to take place in the Liberia, despite assurances from WAFU and the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

That event took place in Ghana.

Another issue of concern for Liberian football fans is the absence of a National Under-20 team for the country.

There has been no youth national teams’ setup in Liberia for years, except the selection of players when international youth games are staged for Liberia.

There are presently no fix programs for National Youth teams in Liberia.

Besides, the LFA is presently locked up with electoral issues and has not staged a football competition for more than four months, and there is no indication that national football competition will begin any sooner or later.
