Wafu/FOX Under-20 draws Paired hosts Liberia against Cape Verde

The draw for the Wafu/FOX Under-20 competition took place on Monday, March 26, 2018 with host Liberia been paired against Cape Verde for the opener April 24, 2018.

The two were drawn in Group A alongside, Guinea Bissua, and Sierra Leone.

Senegal was paired in Group B with Mali, Gambia, and Guinea, while Senegal is expected to open the Group B activities on April 24, 2018 against Mali at Liberia’s biggest football stadium the Samuel Kanyan Doe Sports Complex (SKD) Sports Complex in Monrovia.

The Wafu U-20 Competition sponsored by FOX will kick off April 24, 2018 at the SKD in Paynesville city, with eight West African Youth teams competing. The Wafu/FOX Competition will be the first international Competition to be stage in Liberia since the Eight Nations Tournament in 1988.

The draw took place at the SKD, in the presence of the Ministry officials, local football executives and representatives of WAFU nations to Liberia.

WAFU Vice President, Musa Bility earlier before the draw said the competition is been staged to pay homage to Africa’s soccer Legend, now President of Liberia, George Weah, and inspire young footballers.

Mr. Bility said the Liberia Football Association will use the competition to retire Liberia’s most Iconic jersey number 14, won by Legendary George Weah, during his playing days for the Liberia National Football Team.

Also speaking, Youth and Sports Minister Zeogar Wilson praised Wafu for the decision to stage the competition in Liberia. Minister Wilson said the Youth Competition is keen for Liberia’s grassroots football development.
