MONROVIA,LIBERIA-Defending football and kickball champions Wednesday, April 19,2018, reached the grand finals of the 2017/18 National County Sports Meet in style.

Montserrado County defeated Margibi County 8-7 in penalties to reach their fourth finals in five years.

The Champions came from a goal down to force Margibi County into post-match penalties after the full ninety minutes plus extra thirty minutes ended 1-1.

Margibi County took the lead in the 4th minute when Daniel Tuazama corrected a defensive error from Montserrado County defense.

That goal was number 17 for Tuazama who now becomes County Meet All time lead goal scorer, having played in the competition for almost eight years, featuring for more than three different counties.

Montserrado County Mark Karley leveled from a corner kick six minutes later and mounted pressure to get in front.

But Margibi County fine defensive work denied the Champions just before torrential rain forced the match to come to a standstill.

The rain forced spectators to flee the stadium with the players complaining of poor visibility in the 36 minute.

The game resumed 33 minutes later after the rain subsided, with Margibi County dominating possession, but missing several scoring chances.

Vinah Smith, the Goalkeeper of Montserrado County, won the Man of the match award for his fine goalkeeping which denied Margibi County of several goal scoring chances.

The two sides settled the score at the penalty box with Kofi Nimely, (only used by Montserrado County for penalties) saving Margibi County 7th spot kick, but the keeper wasted the opportunity to take Montserrado County to the final when he missed his side 7th kick.

The Keeper was, however, blessed as Margibi County missed two spot kicks in succession before Garsimun Kouyateh thundered in to give Montserrado the victory, ending the contest 8-7.

Montserrado County will chase Bong County in Sunday’s final at the SKD Sports Complex.
