Guinean plane crashes near RIA, ten fear dead

 (lbsonline/RIA)-Reports are emerging of an airplane crash in Charlesville, Lower Margibi County near the Roberts International Airport.

The plane, a CN235 CASA marked 3X Tipple ‘G’ was said to have been bringing to Liberia a high power military delegation from the Republic of Guinea to attend ceremonies marking the  56th  celebration of the Armed Forces Day of Liberia.

The crash in which ten persons are reported to have been on-board the flight, took place Monday, February 11 2013.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf speaking briefly to mark the Armed Forces Day spoke of the crash and described it as tragic and extended the Liberian Government’s profound regrets and sympathy to the President and people of Guinea.

“May I ask you to remain standing for a moment of silence to several members of the 61st staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Guinea, who were involved in a tragic plane crash on their way to today’s ceremonies”,  the Commander –In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia(AFL),President Sirleaf said.

President Sirleaf addressing the occasion, asked the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, saying: “please convey to our brother and colleague, the President of the Republic of Guinea, our profound sadness over this loss and in their honor we will declared tomorrow a working holiday”.

According to President Sirleaf, the Tuesday, February 12, holiday which is in honor of the dead, is to serve as a demonstration of Liberia’s sorrow over the loss of the lives of the Guineans.
