PUL Prez-Join to support the repeal of anti-free speech laws

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Charles Coffey, is calling on the Government to join Journalists in Liberia to champion the repeal of anti-free speech legislations.

Mr. Coffey said:” If such action is taken, it will improve the legal operating environment for members of the Press Union of Liberia.”

Addressing the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) Press Conference ahead of World Press Freedom Day on Thursday, April 26, 2018, Mr. Coffey said the day is celebrated to honor and recognize the risks journalist take to report the stories.

According to Mr. Coffey, the Global theme of this Year’s World Press Freedom day is: “Keeping Power in Check” ,with the local theme: “Deepening the Strives to Fully Report Liberia.

Mr. Coffey said the day will also be used to pay homage to journalists who have died recently, including former PUL President, Abdullai Kamara, and Super FM/TV Journalist Tyron Browne.
