Sime Darby Company gets up to ninety days…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has given the Management of Sime Darby up to ninety days to address the issue of bad labor practices and restore basic services for workers and surrounding communities.

A report released by a special investigative committee also demanded that the company employs Liberians at top managerial positions.

The Committee headed by Margibi County Representative, Tibelrosa Tarponweh recommended the immediate removal of the Company’s Operations Manager.

In the report, the Committee said its investigation shows high level of bad labor practices, human rights abuses, poor health and school facilities and lack of safe drinking water for workers.

The report said nearly the entire senior management of the Company is headed by foreigners, except for a single Liberian lady that is said to be fronting as a Human Resource Manager.

The report which contains tough recommendations was released Tuesday, May 8,2018 in the Plenary of the House of Representatives.

Following the reading of the report, the Plenary adopted the it and urged the Committee to oversee the implementation of the recommendations.
