Liberian observes national Unification Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberians nationwide are marking today May 14, as National Unification Day as a national holiday.

The day May 14 in 1960 was declared through an Act passed by the National Legislature to be observed as National Unification Day each year.

In a proclamation issued May 13, 2018 in Monrovia, by President George Manneh Weah, said the observance of the day is in consonance with the Act and should be observed throughout the country.

The President’s Proclamation also recalls the wisdom of the Unification Policy has found expression in the national fabric through the presentation of all sections of the country in the Legislature and every other branch of government, thereby promoting conditions of the peace and unity in the country.

President Weah, is further stressing the adherence of Government of Liberia to the principles of justice, equality, fair play and equal play and equal opportunities for all, regardless of tribe, religion or economic status.
