Youth Movement develops plan to track campaign promises…

MONROVIA, LIBEERIA-A project to track the campaign promises made by the Coalition for Democratic Change led Government during the 2017 National Elections has been developed.

The project was developed by the National Youth Movement for Transparent Elections in partnership with a Nigerian-based Group, Center for Democracy and Development.

NAYMOTE’s Executive Director, Eddie Jarwolo, noted that under the project, 800 copies of the CDC’s manifesto have been produced for distribution across the country.

Mr.Jarwolo said the idea is intended to help the public understand promises made by the CDC during the 2017 campaign period and to generate the citizens’ participation in the debate on public policies.

He said the 400 copies highlight the four pillars of the CDC-led Government: Power to the People, Economy and Jobs, Sustaining the Peace, and Governance and Transparency.

Mr.Jarwolo told journalists Saturday, May 26, 2018, in Monrovia that currently series of discussions are ongoing, with a drama being held on four community radio stations in Bong, Nimba, Margi and Lofa counties.

“The project which will commence early June will run up to September 2018, and is expected to increase accountability of the CDC- led Government of its electoral campaign promises;  increase advocacy for better governance in Liberia’s emerging democracy”, NAYMOTE Executive Director pointed out.

He said the project will last for one year with the overall goal to improve public accountability and transparency in the management of Liberia’s governance processes.

Mr. Jarwolo stated: “The project is under the titled “We Voted, So What? It is time to know what our government promised to do”.

The four pillars of CDC led – Government which focus on Power to the People, has the components of Education and Training, Health and Sanitation, Gender Equality, Youth Reorientation and Physically Challenged and Senior Citizens; Economy and Jobs and Sustainable Economy Growth, Agriculture and Forestry and Infrastructure Development;  Sustaining the Peace with components of Justice and Human Rights,

Reconciliation and Security and National Defense, while the last pillar Governance and Transparency components are Decentralization of Institutions  and system, Accountability and Anti – Corruption and Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Relations.
