MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President George Weah has granted clemency to thirty-eight inmates from various prisons centers across the Country, including the Monrovia Central Prison.

President Weah’s pardon, however, did not include people jailed for rape and armed robbery.

President Weah said:” Armed robbers and rapists do not have place in the society and as such they can never be his friends.”

Those set free by the President, in conjunction with the Justice Ministry, include inmates who have committed lesser offenses and have demonstrated good behavior.

President Weah said he was sad to see young people who should have been medical doctors, lawyers and engineers languishing behind bars and called rigorous rehabilitation program for the inmates.

The Liberian Leader was speaking Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Monrovia Central Prison where he also provided rice and cartons of fish to the inmates.

The President also said that government has embarked on a process to construct a modern and larger prison facility in Bensonville, Montserrado County.
