By Darius Zinnah

(lbsonline/Liberia)-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued revised regulations regarding the issuance of various categories of Liberian Passports.

These revised regulations provide for four categories of Liberian passports, including ordinary, service, official and diplomatic books.

Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, said: "Non-Liberians whing to serve the country as honorary consuls will not be given the privilege of carrying a diplomatic passport."

“They are simply not entitled to such privilege as required under the new regulations,” the Chief Liberian Diplomat said.

Foreign Minister Ngafuan made the statements when he unveiled the new regulations Thursday 6th December, 2012 at the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism’s weekly press briefing in Monrovia.

“Diplomatic and Official Passports are privileged documents and issued certain categories of individuals, as spelled out in the regulations,” he added.

"Request for Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports for individuals in government will have to come from the head of such institutions.”

“All other categories of passports will be issued for a two-year period with the exception of ordinary passports that will be issued for a five-year period,” the Liberian Foreign Minister emphasized.

The revised regulations, governing the administration and issuance of Liberian passports, are in line with the Foreign Ministry’s statutory responsibilities.
